A key element in the design of this horse was adding the cape, which would drape over one side of the horse, and keeping the horse balanced. The cape was made from cardboard and then fiberglassed to provide the necessary rigidity. To provide the details in the cape, the cape was covered with BondO and the BondO sculpted to the desired shapes. BondO is difficult to sand after it has cured but during the curing process it can be sanded relatively easily. Painting was another key to this horse. Notice how the details were carefully shaded so the horse looks good in any light.
